Not only is patriotism now de rigour in Canada but thanks to Trump pipelines are popular, internal trade barriers ( equal to 21% tariffs) are being dismantled, we’re starting to deal with the fentanyl crisis, illegal immigrants are being deported and we’re even talking about defending the arctic (40% of Canada’s landmass) with something more robust than dog sled teams. Thank you President Trump!!

Great article it is sad that so many Canadians are so brain washed. What is sadder is that Canadians are now rallying behind Trudeau, make me sick. How can anyone stand behind anyone that has done their best to destroy Canada. Now China is putting tariffs on Canada. These guys are working together to destroy Western Countries. I have posed this question, seems what is left of my friends are now dropping. You have only these 2 choices, do you want to be part of China, or would you be part of the USA. They freak I don't want either. Well wake the hell up cause I do not blame Trump for what he has done. With all the fentanyl coming in the Port of Vancouver. By the way I love the tutu

So true. To be brainwashed is to be Canadian. I have lived around the world, including in the US and Canadians are by far the most brainwashed people around the globe, believeing in totally bizarre scams, easily demolished on the spot, just because told to...

Only 1-7% of shipping containers that land in Canada are checked. I’m one of those who thought that Trump’s attacks on Canada were based on fantasy and lies but after looking into it a bit. I was like he does have a point. Anyway we need to get our own house in order. It hasn’t been for a long time. I would say 10yrs. Trump is just the wake up call.

Getting our house in order will not be easy if Carney is elected PM. He intends to carry on with liberal irresponsibility like soft on crime and woke policies. It is very disheartening to be a proud Canadian today.

It’s actually turning into a political nightmare for Canadians hoping for a sea change in government. Trump’s rhetoric has had the brutal consequence of elevating the status of Liberal candidate Mark Carney. The conservative lead in the polls has all but vanished. If Carney gets in, the nail will finally be in the coffin for this country. He is the brains behind the Trudeau machine. It’s the worst possible outcome.

I’m not certain about anything but dealing with material reality as it exists matters. Woo woo doesn’t fix the fact that Trump is anathema to Canadian sensibilities. The Liberals are using every chaotic moment to paint the Conservatives as Maple Maga. It’s working.

Expand full comment
Simon Esler's avatar

The Conservatives being demonized through the "Maple MAGA" narrative only works because of Canada's captured media and how easily programmed a portion of our population is. To pin this problem on Trump is to ignore our own struggle with group think and psychological warfare waged by the state-captured media. The conservative party in Canada is currently on record supporting sending our money to Ukraine, backing "conversion therapy laws" that force parents to engage in gender affirmative care, and backing mass immigration. They are conservative in name only. The time the Canadian media has spent demonizing the American right as a form of long term conditioning is the only reason the association with MAGA is a negative one. Meanwhile, conservatives are betraying the Canadian people by acting as part of the Uniparty that is driving forward the same NWO agenda as the liberals. This is why exposing these globalist post-national narratives is so beneficial for Canada in the long run.

MarshaLouise's avatar

Exactly. I fear that the Conservative leader is being misled by the WEF policies mainly because the hate-Putin media and political parties are all on board as they fail to see the Ukrainian thug leader and his Nazi Azov regime, along with NATO, are provoking Russia because Putin, in spite of bad media, refuses to be a puppet for the New World Order. You have nailed it with the brilliance of the manner in which Trump is destroying the “post-national” narrative that Trudeau promoted to win over ill-informed Canadians for WEF and globalism.

Every day I smile at the hilarious flag-waving. My neighbours have brought out their new big Ukrainian flag to prove they are brainwashed by Canada’s media.

McE is correct but he infers the destruction of Canada is a bad thing. Maybe Carney running the Trudeau machine is the way for us to become the 51st state and as such, is a good thing.

Is Canada under Carney worth saving? What is the post national nation anyways? I say it’s a fraud. I say Canada is a fraud.

It is actually true that Canada lacks a solid foundational national identity. It sits right on top of the U.S. but chose to stay under Britain’s boot so we fought the American Revolution without Canada. This required steely grit which is really part of our national DNA. After years of the globalist demoralization op perpetrated on our country, Trump stepped in and rejuvenated it. He began his speech with the words, “ America’s back.” If Canada wants to follow their spineless, liberal, wimpy leaders, it’s doomed. We could be such good friends if they would just wake up.

And yet, Poilievre is not sinking in the polls. Conservatives are not suddenly buying into the King Carney BS. This is more media manipulation as always. Of course, the vaxxed have learned nothing. When the fear of Trump making Canada the 51st state roiled the brainwashed, I surmised that only the offer of a vax for that would excite them to head to the clinics for the magic needle. Whatever the media put in their heads they will accept. An ignorant population is why a numbskull got to destroy this country for 8 or more years.

Beautiful analysis! I have been trying to puzzle out the various elements of Trump’s reasoning on this. It’s not that Trump plays four dimensional chess. He has been clear. He wants the old interNATIONALIST dream. He sees the West as a family of Nations. He knows that conflict forces distinctions. He is forcing the Canadians to wake up by making them understand what lies ahead if they don’t stick together. The whole world together as one may sound nice, but the reality of that dream is an elite sucking the whole world dry for themselves.

In order to enable their self-righteous virtue signaling, the left needs a Trump to maintain their moral high ground. Trump just helped to expose their true nature.

An interesting perspective.

It parallels the recent declarations of the powers within the EU that Europe must re-arm post-haste, that a militarized Russia must now be met with a militarized Europe, all the while making Ukraine into a "steel porcupine".

The "post-nationalism" of the globalist elites does not appear to have much staying power against the unabashed nationalism of Donald Trump.

The COVID Pandemic Panic proved that nationalism was far from a spent force. Could we be seeing signs that, in fact, nationalism is still the superior force in geopolitics?

Great Power Competition would argue that a return to nationalism is inevitable. Hegemony is not possible without nations fully identified as such.

This is an interesting take. I read on another substack an analysis that suggested that Trump is reassessing the world from the standpoint of multipolarity and has identified Canada as a huge strategic liability. Thus his talk of annexation - America must have effective control over Canadian territory and resources.

I like your take more, seeing as annexation is about as likely as landing on Venus tomorrow (not to mention the giant wrench it would throw into American politics to absorb so many unthinking globalist-progressive morons into the voting public). It’s all a psy-op to force the Canadians to grow some backbone and wake up from their comfortable globalist delusions. Once they’re sufficiently awake they’re going to look at their government, wonder when the hell they got so weak, and vote the poltroons out in favor of someone more muscular. It might take a while but if Trump keeps them mad, they’ll keep waking up.
